MMA stands for Manual Metal Arc Welding, which is a welding equipment that uses a manually operated welding torch to hold the welding rod, and then uses the electric arc between the welding rod and the workpiece to melt the base metal and the welding rod to form a weld seam. There are two types of inverter manual welding technologies: one is IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor), and the other is MOSFET (Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor). Currently, most manual welding machines adopt the IGBT technology, ranging from household models like MMA-160 and MMA-200 to industrial-grade models like MMA-400 and MMA-500, which are the mainstream components of MMA welding machines. Its advantages lie in high efficiency at high currents, less heat generation, and higher duty cycle; it also has strong voltage and shock resistance, making it more suitable for harsh environments such as construction sites and outdoors; and some welding machines support thrust adjustment and anti-stick rod functions, with better arc stability.
Foowoo produces a full range of manual welding machines, with currents ranging from 100A to 630A. The smallest machine is about the size of a mobile phone and weighs only 1.8KGS, and it is also compatible with 1.6-3.2mm welding rods.
For home use or DIY projects, it is recommended to choose a power of 120-250A, suitable for daily maintenance and small bracket welding; the load rate of home welding machines is 60% (able to continuously weld for 6 minutes within 10 minutes), which can meet the needs of non-continuous use; at the same time, confirm whether it has a 220V single-phase input to avoid tripping. If it is for industrial use, it is recommended to select a power of 315-600A, suitable for medium-thick plate operations in steel structures and pipelines. Industrial welding machines require a load rate of 80%-100%, suitable for long-term high-current welding and avoiding frequent overheating protection; in terms of voltage, priority should be given to 380V three-phase input, or a dual-voltage compatible model of 220/380V, to adapt to different construction scenarios.
1. Be vigilant against "false current indication". Verify the rated current on the nameplate against the load rate to avoid insufficient actual output.
2. Do not choose cheap machines. Inferior machines are prone to overheating protection failure and even pose an electric shock risk.
3. Do not overlook the specification size of the cable. An overly thin cable will cause voltage drop, affecting the stability of the arc. Opt for copper-core cables as a priority.
